The U-Thong Thawarawadi Study Center under Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University (BSRU) exemplifies its commitment to SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by fostering collaboration with local authorities on planning and development initiatives. It is located in Suphanburi and is technically BSRU’s second campus. This collaboration focuses on enhancing accessible community resources and services, promoting affordable housing, and contributing to regional cultural and educational enrichment.

Mission and Goals (U-Thong Thawarawadi Report, page 7)

BSRU’s U-Thong Thawarawadi Study Center, completed in 2023, aligns with the university’s overarching mission of being a “quality university in local development.” The center actively supports local residents through academic services, local arts preservation, and income generation from academic services, which contribute to the socio-economic development of surrounding communities. Specific goals include creating a hub for learning, innovation, and community health that emphasizes traditional herbal science and health promotion. This mission includes expanding local economic value through training programs and local product innovation, fostering both local culture and wisdom.

Infrastructure Development for Student and Community Use (U-Thong Thawarawadi Report, page 27-29)

BSRU has invested significantly in the infrastructure surrounding the U-Thong Thawarawadi Study Center, including the “Cho Chong Ko U-Thong Dvaravati Dormitory,” a key development that was completed in 2023 in order to support affordable student housing in partnership with local authorities. The project, with a total investment of 63,781,649.18 baht, aims to provide accessible housing for students, particularly benefiting those from low-income backgrounds. This facility includes 14 single rooms and 48 double rooms equipped with amenities to support academic needs, such as designated study areas, multipurpose spaces, and shared resources like hair dryers and hot water kettles.

The development also includes improved access roads and ample parking facilities. These upgrades, with a budget of 5,495,200 baht, were implemented in partnership with Wattana Phatthana Company Limited, a local development firm. The project includes a 4-meter wide entry road, 57 car parking spaces, and 133 motorcycle spaces, ensuring accessible transport infrastructure for students, faculty, and staff.

Community Spaces and Event Facilities

The U-Thong Thawarawadi Education Center Auditorium Building is a two-story facility designed to serve as a community and university gathering space. This building spans 3,943 square meters and supports local and regional events, including training, conferences, and other community activities. Its first floor features multipurpose rooms and open areas, while the second floor includes a large meeting room capable of accommodating 800 people. This venue enhances local infrastructure for public gatherings and encourages community engagement with BSRU, supporting SDG 11 through promoting local partnerships and cultural interaction.

Collaborative Planning with Local Authorities

BSRU’s proactive partnership with local authorities in planning and development directly supports SDG 11 by enhancing housing affordability, infrastructure accessibility, and community resources. By sharing spaces and services with local residents and providing evidence of collaboration, BSRU upholds transparency and public accountability in its contributions to local development.
