At Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University (BSRU), we are committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable educational environment that welcomes individuals from all backgrounds. Our strategic initiatives align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly emphasizing SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). We actively engage in programs and policies that not only enhance diversity within our community but also facilitate the recruitment of students, staff, and faculty from underrepresented groups. Here are some key actions we have taken:
1. Programs Highlighting Diversity and Inclusivity
BSRU Ambassador 2023 Road to SDGs Contest: This contest celebrates diversity, featuring participants from various backgrounds, including an LGBTQIA+ category winner. By publicly showcasing diverse achievements, BSRU creates a welcoming atmosphere for prospective students from underrepresented groups, particularly those from LGBTQIA+ backgrounds. This initiative positions BSRU as an inclusive institution, making it more attractive to students who value diversity.
Gender Expression Policy at Graduation: Our policy allowing students to dress according to their gender identity during graduation ceremonies fosters a supportive environment for individuals of diverse gender identities. Although this policy does not directly impact recruitment, it helps create an inclusive campus culture where prospective students feel their identities will be respected and affirmed.
2. Policies Supporting Underrepresented Groups
Non-Discrimination Policy: BSRU’s non-discrimination policy is fundamental in creating an equitable recruitment framework. It guarantees equal opportunities for all individuals, including those from marginalized groups, thus reducing barriers to entry. This policy attracts prospective students and employees from diverse backgrounds, fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and supported.
Our SDG-focused strategy incorporates diversity as part of our commitment to sustainable development. By welcoming individuals from underrepresented groups, BSRU cultivates a campus culture attractive to those who prioritize social equity and sustainable practices, even if these initiatives do not target recruitment directly.
3. Strategic Collaborations and Initiatives for Inclusivity
International Outreach and Inclusion of Non-Traditional Students:
Through international partnerships, particularly with ASEAN and Chinese universities, BSRU increases opportunities for students from various backgrounds to pursue higher education here. These collaborations directly contribute to the recruitment of diverse international students, enriching our academic and cultural environment.
4. Community-Focused Inclusivity Initiatives
University as a Marketplace Initiative : This initiative supports economically disadvantaged community members, creating pathways for individuals who might not typically access higher education to participate in university-led programs. While it does not directly recruit students, it provides exposure to university resources, which can lead to increased enrollment from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
