To advance its mission of expanding educational access and narrowing economic gaps in higher education, Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University (BSRU) has introduced measures to broaden enrollment opportunities for students from underprivileged backgrounds. Acknowledging the difficulties experienced by low-income households, BSRU is committed to opening its academic programs to individuals within Thailand’s lowest 20% income group.

Targeting Admissions for Low-Income Students (2024)

In line with its dedication to promoting equity, BSRU systematically monitors and evaluates student demographics, placing particular emphasis on household income. In 2024, data showed that 56% of the university’s 2,980 full-time equivalent (FTE) first-year students came from families with annual incomes below 150,000 Baht, positioning them among the lowest national income quintiles. Furthermore, 5% of students reported having no household income at all, highlighting the university’s role in extending educational opportunities to those most economically disadvantaged. This approach reflects BSRU’s commitment not only to tracking income disparities but also to actively supporting low-income students in accessing higher education.

While BSRU has not set a formal target for admitting students from the lowest income quintile, its consistent data collection and the high proportion of students from low-income households indicate an implicit prioritization of disadvantaged groups. By systematically monitoring income-related student data, the university is able to evaluate and refine its admissions strategies to enhance equity in access, demonstrating a strong alignment with SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities.

Financial Accessibility and Inclusion

BSRU complements its commitment to enrolling students from varied economic backgrounds with a wide range of financial aid schemes and support services. These include scholarships, career counseling, and tailored assistance provided through programs such as the Student Loan Fund, the DSS Centre, and the BSRU Consulting Centre. Together, these initiatives help reduce financial obstacles, ensuring that students’ economic circumstances do not hinder their access to academic opportunities.
