Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University (BSRU) operates under a structured governance system, with the University Council serving as its highest governing body. The Council consists of key positions that ensure effective decision-making and oversight, with elected members representing various faculty, staff, and external experts. Additionally, the Student Council plays an essential role in managing student activities, supporting organizations, and ensuring student engagement in university governance. This collaborative structure fosters a unified approach to leadership and supports the university’s mission, including promoting sustainable development through events like the BSRU Ambassador 2023 competition.

  1. Governance Structure and Leadership Selection at BSRU

BSRU’s highest governing body is the BSRU University Council, which consists of ten key positions as specified in the composition of the University Council:

    1. Chair of the University Council: 1 position.

    2. Vice-Chair of the University Council: 1 position.

    3. University President: 1 position, 1 person.

    4. External Expert Members: 9 positions.

    5. Chair of the Committee for University Promotion: 1 position.

    6. University Administration Representatives: 4 positions.

    7. Faculty Representatives: 2 positions.

    8. Chair of the Faculty Council: 1 position, 1 person.

    9. University Council Secretary: 1 position.

    10. Assistant Secretaries to the University Council: 3 positions.

As seen by the administrative structure of BSRU, there are certain committees that work closely with the University Council. The heads of those committees are also elected members of the University Council and each of them have certain responsibilities pertaining to their role. 

Council of Faculty and Civil Servants- สภาคณาจารย์และข้าราชการ

Established in accordance with the regulations of the Faculty and Civil Service Council of Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University in 2004, the Faculty and Civil Service Council has roles and responsibilities to take care of the well-being of personnel and faculty, suggestions, academic standards, policies, regulations, and the code of ethics of faculty and civil servants.

At the end of 2023 there have been elections at BSRU to determine the new president as well as new members of the Council of Faculty and Civil servants. The members of the council consist of faculty from each of the Faculties of BSRU as well as staff (non-faculty). The newly appointed members of the Council can be viewed here. The President of the Council of Faculty and Civil Servants is also the Chair of the Faculty Council of the University Council (last row, middle photo ), the current one being Assistant Professor Dr. Nisakorn Thaosombat. 

Regarding the selection of the BRSU president, both faculty and staff nominate candidates and engage in several steps of review. Each office selects a representative, and from these representatives, one faculty member and one non-faculty member are chosen to cast votes for the president from the final list of candidates. This process ensures a balanced and collaborative approach, with both academic and administrative perspectives considered in the decision-making, fostering a unified vision for BRSU’s leadership.

  1. BSRU Student Council: Leadership, Governance, and SDG Engagement

The Student Council plays a crucial role in overseeing and supporting student organizations, clubs, and activities. Its primary duties include considering and approving policies, projects, and budgets for student organizations and events (page 4 onwards). The Council also reviews student complaints and suggestions, providing feedback to the university, and ensuring accountability through inspections of finances and performance reports. Additionally, it tracks and evaluates the activities of student organizations, offering feedback and suggestions for improvement. Students are considered to be involved in the administration of the senior executives, who are elected.

 

 

The Student Council is also responsible for ensuring the proper functioning of the Student Organization Committee. It can engage in debates, initiate no-confidence votes, and propose the removal of committee members when necessary. The Student Council President represents the council externally and coordinates with student bodies, while the Public Relations Officer manages internal and external communication. The Council may also propose subcommittees to assist with specific tasks, ensuring the smooth running of student activities in line with university policies. On November 6, 2023, Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University held the “BSRU Ambassador 2023 Road to SDGs” competition, organized by the Student Organization, Student Clubs, and Student Council, in collaboration with the Student Affairs Office. The event aimed to promote awareness of sustainable development and the university’s identity. Winners were selected in various categories, including male and female representatives from different faculties, as well as special awards for popular votes, best performance, and leadership qualities. The event was honored by the university’s president and expert judges.
