Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University (BSRU) is committed to enhancing the health and well-being of local communities through a diverse range of outreach initiatives. These programs, developed in collaboration with community members, health authorities, and various organizations, aim to address pressing health issues, promote sustainable living, and foster social connections. By engaging students and community volunteers in meaningful activities, BSRU strives to create a healthier, more vibrant community while supporting vulnerable populations, including seniors and displaced individuals.

1. Community Clean-Up and Health Awareness in Bang Saikai

On August 11, 2023, BSRU’s Vice President, Associate Professor Sayan Phutthala, and Assistant Professor Teerathawan Pan Klang, Director of Student Affairs, led students and staff in a community clean-up initiative in collaboration with the Bang Saikai community. This volunteer-driven event aimed to promote hygiene, community well-being, and sustainable living. With the support of the abbot of Wat Bang Saikai and the Sang Tien Group Foundation, the program reinforced the significance of community health and environmental hygiene.

2.Health and Nutrition Outreach in Local Communities

BSRU has implemented nutritional guidance programs in collaboration with local health authorities. These initiatives offer practical workshops and seminars on healthy eating, tailored meal planning, and maintaining a balanced diet to ensure long-term well-being. Targeted at families and at-risk groups, these outreach efforts aim to reduce the incidence of lifestyle-related health issues and improve public health standards.

3.Exercise and Sports Programs for Community Wellness

Through student volunteer programs, BSRU has organized community sports days and exercise workshops, promoting physical activity as a cornerstone of healthy living. These initiatives engage both youth and senior members of local communities, fostering social connections while supporting fitness and mobility.

4.Financial Wellness and Brain Health for Seniors

On February 25, 2023, Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University’s (BSRU) Graduate School, in collaboration with the Master of Business Administration program, launched the “Easy Money Management for Seniors” workshop. Part of an outreach program focused on the health and financial stability of senior citizens in the Prasanmit and Bang Yi Ruea communities of Thonburi, the workshop addressed strategies for managing financial risk and introduced brain-calming activities through music to help prevent dementia. With 50 senior participants, the event emphasized interdisciplinary learning, highlighting the importance of mental health and financial literacy in aging well.

5.Promoting Health and Wellness through Community Dance Initiatives

BSRU has made significant strides in fostering health and well-being through outreach programs that engage local communities. One notable project involved training students in soft skills development through a social engineering process. This training prepared them to coach Baslop dance to representatives from the Prasanmitr community, a neighborhood close to the university. The program emphasized skills such as communication, coordination, and community innovation.

The trained representatives further disseminated their knowledge within their community, promoting physical activity and building a culture of health and well-being. This initiative contributed to creating a stronger, health-conscious community and culminated in participation at the “Urban Community Festival for Health Promotion.” The community received first prize for their efforts, demonstrating the success of dance and movement activities in promoting health among the elderly, with the award titled “Seniors with Strong Will for Wellness.” The prize was awarded at the festival held on September 24, 2023, at the Bangkok Youth Center (Thai-Japan).

6.Music Therapy Workshops for Elderly Well-being

On May 27, 2023, BSRU’s College of Music hosted a practical workshop titled “Music Activities for the Elderly: Music Therapy.” This event was part of the Learning Center for Sustainable Development Project aimed at community resource management. The workshop focused on using music therapy as a tool to enhance mental and emotional well-being among senior citizens.

7.Suriya Volunteer Student Club: Supporting Local and Displaced Communities

The Suriya Volunteer Student Club at Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University plays a vital role in providing emergency support to local and displaced communities. This student-led initiative collaborates with various NGOs, most notably the Poh Tek Tung Foundation, to ensure the well-being of community members during crises. The club offers essential services such as first aid, emergency response, and hospital transportation, effectively addressing the urgent health needs of all individuals, regardless of their background. Through their dedicated efforts, the Suriya Volunteer Student Club fosters resilience and solidarity within the community, particularly for those who are displaced and vulnerable.
